  • Songs and Hand Actions

  • Manga: Ikkyu san

    Students learn about the historical figure Ikkyuusan by reading a manga created using very simple Japanese.

  • Kanji:Tasks

    Students work on two tasks relating to kanji. In the first they look at how a stroke can be added to the kanji for “day” to form a new kanji. In the second, they form kanji compounds using cards.

  • Sumo Related Activities

    Students are introduced to and learn about sumo through key words and phrases presented in a number of games and activities.

  • Kanji: Radicals

    Students learn how to recognise the structure of kanji and become familiar with the concept of identifying and looking up a kanji compound by looking at its radical.

  • Manga: Taketori Monogatari

    Students read the manga of the story of Kaguyahime. There are tasks to complete and discussion questions. They can also perform the skit or use it as a base for discussion on its themes and the topic of fairy tales.

  • Information Gap: Writing and Reading

    Students perform reading and writing tasks on the topic of Family & Friends. Each task has an element of information gap.

  • Information Gap: Family

    Students match pictures of families to corresponding text or vice versa.

  • Information Gap: Daily Routine

    Students work through a series of information gap exercises on the topic of daily routine; what time different activities occur.

  • Skit: Tanabata

    Students perform a short skit about the origins of the Tanabata Festival held in July. The skit emphasises the months and how the lovers can only meet once a year.
