  • Language Discovery Online

    Students are shown how to use the website Language Discovery Online to make contact with students in Japan that is secure and easy to use. The website assists them in composing messages in Japanese. The students in Japan reply in English.

  • Make a Photo Story

    Students make a digital photo presentation using software such as ‘Photo Story' and ‘iPhoto' as a starter project for making videos. This will enable students to gain skills in making an audiovisual presentation, making it easier to create good videos later.

  • Video Production in the Classroom

    Students use their higher-order thinking skills and creativity to devise scenarios, student roles, props, lighting, editing techniques for a video project of their choice.

  • Speech Creation

    Students are guided through the process of creating a speech to be presented to their Japanese class. The topics covered by the flowcharts are: About Japan, Event/Festival, My Hobby, My Dreams and Social Problems. The speeches are 1 to 2 minutes in length.

  • Kanji:Tasks

    Students work on two tasks relating to kanji. In the first they look at how a stroke can be added to the kanji for “day” to form a new kanji. In the second, they form kanji compounds using cards.

  • Information Gap: Writing and Reading

    Students perform reading and writing tasks on the topic of Family & Friends. Each task has an element of information gap.

  • Composition Writing

    Students practise constructing compositions, using 5 Steps. The process teaches students to think about the structure of their texts and plan in advance. Sample texts and questions come from HSC Online.

  • Me and My Family

    Students work through examples of the conjunctions listed above then complete a cloze exercise in the form of a letter.

  • Youth Issues: Reported Information

    Students read passages about Japanese teenagers then report on the information to the class.

  • How We Use Water

    Students will practise numbers as they discuss the percentage of water in plants and animals. They will then brainstorm verbs relating to water use and discuss Australia’s and Japan’s use of water.
